Stone Jets is a local up-and-coming band based in the Mother City. The band was formed in 2013 and released their first EP called River in 2014. Stone Jets have also performed alongside Majozi and have a growing following on Facebook and Twitter. Their last EP, entitled What I Say (2016), really takes you on an emotional journey.
The band describes their music as Afro-pop and rock. All of the tracks are super catchy, especially Hurricane and Something Good. Stone Jets’ sound is quite earthy. There’s also accompaniment of drums to the guitar, giving it a familiar rock vibe as well as a “city life” feel to it, and I think that any of these tracks are so good they could be movie soundtracks.
The tempo of the songs strikes a great balance between an upbeat and slow pace. All the songs speak about either meeting people and making friends, meeting people and falling in love, or falling out of love. The lyrics are far-reaching because we all go through at least one of those themes at some point in time. However, regardless of which theme you’re relating to, you’ll still want to tap your foot along to the beat.
The album is definitely a remedy when you’re in need of a pick-me-up, or just want to have a good time.
If you want to catch this local group live, they’ll be performing at Cafe Roux tomorrow night, Wednesday 28th Feb 2018.
