After a decent start to the 2018 season, the Ikeys Tigers were knocked back as the season ran along. It seemed as though those early losses really knocked the team as they could not gain any significant momentum going forward.
This, however, has not been a terrible season for the beloved rugby team as they have finished at a marginally acceptable 6th position on the table, picking up 4 wins in the process.
However, this is where the good news ends. The team finished a full 13 points below the final winners, our arch rivals, Maties. This fact has made its way just up the road, which is bad enough, but the lack of any convincing challenge by the Ikeys Tigers is very worrying.
One of the major problems lie in their home form against some of the top sides, and not only in the losses but also how considerable these losses have been both home and away. This culminated in the major 33-14 loss to Maties in round 6.
The season is over now and the only thing Ikeys can do is move on and use this as a learning opportunity to shore up some of the tactical issues they may have to improve for the coming season. Maybe bring in some up-and-coming talent to refresh the line-up or try some fringe players and see what happens.
Something needs to change, but this is not the end of the world. The Ikeys Tigers will no doubt come back better than ever and you need to make sure you’re there to see it. No matter what – they need your support.
