The first semester is finally coming to an end. But before you get ready for the winter vac, you will need to hang in there a little longer. Chin up, the sleepless nights will soon be over, and you can get back to waking up at 1pm in the afternoon. But for now, studying is your number one priority.


Here are some tips on how to optimise your studying time:

  • Find a study space that is comfortable and distraction-free with the least amount of noise.
  • Playing music is a good way of helping you relax and can put you in a good space whilst studying.
  • Figure out when your golden hour. This is when you’re most productive. Whether you preferwaking up at 6am to start studying or studying through the night. Find a time that best suits you and plan your study timetable around it, remembering to take short breaks in-between.
  • Going through past papers will test your study skills, techniques and will show how much you It’s also a good way to build confidence in your work and you’ll then know what you need to spend more time learning.


Words of encouragement such as daily devotions can be helpful as a stress reliever. We’ve picked out some inspirational movie quotes that will make you feel confident going into the exam season:

Basically, what Mr Belfort is saying is to remember your goal and what you want to achieve, it can be as simple as getting a 70% for your course. This should be what motivates you through your exam period.

Studying at UCT is not fun and games, but who said studying would be easy. However, motivating yourself each day can help relieve the anxiety and stress of exams.

Don’t fret over the small stuff. They don’t last that long, before you know it exams will be over soon.

An iconic saying by an iconic woman. Indeed, exams should move at a ‘glacial pace’ so we can get out here and enjoy our vac.


Remember exams does not define you so try not to stress too much about it and avoid puttingthat much pressure on yourself. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger – so persevere and you will be OKAY.
