The Covid-19 epidemic continues to devastate the globe. With many people now extra cautious of not touching surfaces, their face, or getting too close to others. Most have taken the choice to wear masks, gloves and even full body suits to protect themselves from transmission. Unfortunately, there are very few who can access or afford these materials. The scarcity of these items are even more severe as people and businesses are stocking up in bulk. This is no cause for worry, because you can make your own face mask and gloves from the comfort of your home! Here’s what you will need:

Face Mask

You will need:

  • Off-cut material (from an old shirt or curtain)
  • Scissors
  • Elastic or string

Procedure:

Measure how much cloth you will need to cover the mouth and nose area of your face. Use a scissors to cut out the exact shape that you have estimated or measured. Make a small incision on each side of the material, where the elastic will be placed. Be careful not to make a big incision as the mask will not remain steady on your face. After this, cut the string or elastic and place it in the hole on each side of the mask. Then wrap it around your ears. You can choose to tie it around the bottom area of your neck or keep the string around your ears. Adjust as necessary.

Disposable Gloves

You will need:

  • A big waste bag
  • Marker or pen
  • Scissors

Procedure:

Fold a big waste bag into half. Then use a marker to outline the shape of your hand on the bag. Depending on how tight you want the glove to fit, you can mark as close or as far away from your finger shape. The closer you outline your hand, the tighter the glove will be. Now use a scissors to cut out the shape of the glove. This should produce two gloves. These gloves are disposable, and you can make as much as you desire.
